Involve Your Employees in Health
Care Decision-Making With Consumer
Directed Health Plans

As health care costs spiral upward, employers need innovative solutions to control the drivers — increased utilization of services, high prescription drug prices, proliferation of chronic conditions, and more. Our consumer-directed health plan model provides cost controls by actively involving employees in the health care decision-making process.

By educating employees on the true cost of health care and by engaging them in financial participation, employees are empowered to utilize the employee health care system more wisely. The Mayo Clinic Health Solutions model utilizes:

Administrative expertise

We focus on applying our expertise in health benefits administration to help tailor a health care plan that meets our clients' specific needs. Our benefit experts and clinical staff will work together to design short- and long-term strategies for cost containment.

Health and wellness programs

Mayo Clinic Health Solutions clinical programs support plan members throughout the decision-making process. Developed with input from Mayo Clinic experts, these programs teach members how to choose the right care at the right time and make healthy lifestyle choices. And, all information comes from a consistent, credible source — Mayo Clinic.

Reimbursement accounts

Mayo Clinic Health Solutions works with employers to establish and administer reimbursement accounts designed to help manage health
care costs.

  • Employer-funded Health Reimbursement Arrangements (HRAs) reimburse employees for qualified medical expenses up to an account balance; these dollars are tax-free for participants. Depending on the plan design, all or part of the unused HRA balance can be rolled over to cover future expenses.
  • Employee-funded Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) provides a pre-tax benefit to reimburse employees for out-of-pocket medical expenses not covered (or partially covered) by a comprehensive plan. Administration services include medical care spending accounts, dependent care spending accounts, debit card services, and more.
  • Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) can be used to cover annual out-of-pocket expenses under the plan. Participants have access to their accounts 24 hours a day, seven days a week to review account balances, add beneficiaries, utilize retirement calculators, and more.
